SSA Newsletter for August 23, 2019

Welcome Back!
Can you believe that the summer is already over? Let the 2019-2020 school year begin!

Tomorrow morning, Saturday, August 24th is the Info Faire. New students and their families are invited to meet the teacher at 8:30 in their classrooms. The Info Faire will be held from 9am -11am. A light breakfast will be available. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back on campus!

The first day of school is Monday, August 26th.

Back to School Night is Wednesday, August 28th. Please meet us in the church. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm.

Uniform Changes:
In previous years, students had designated times of the year where they had a shorts option. Now students will be allowed to wear the shorts option all year except on Friday Mass days and other days designated as Dress Uniform days.

This year an athletic tennis shoe option will be allowed. The shoes must be Black, White, or Navy Blue. It is ok if the shoe is black and the sole is white, but they may not have additional colors. They may not have designs or patterns. If you have questions please ask.

Coaches and Club Moderators:
We are looking for parents who would be willing to coach Flag Football for grades 5-8 or Girls Softball grades 5-8. Please see Mrs. Ethridge to volunteer.

We are looking to expand the after school club offerings. If you have a hobby or skill that you think will make an exciting club for our students please set up a time to discuss with Miss Klant.

Staff Changes & Junior High:
It has been very eventful at SSA. There have been some new additions and some losses, but the teachers and staff are ready and excited to begin another awesome year.

We are excited for the addition of Mrs. Amigable to our SSA staff. She comes with years of experience and lots of fresh new ideas. She will serve as our 7th grade homeroom teacher and Junior High English Language Arts (ELA) and Literature teacher. Please give her a warm SSA welcome!

Unfortunately for us, Mr. JD Lapperi will not be returning this year. He was blessed to accept a position teaching PE at Silver Strand Elementary in Coronado.  We are lucky that he will still be around in a parent capacity, as well as help out with Lego Club. We are very happy for him and pray for his family as they adjust to their new routine.

We are looking for an Advanced Math teacher as well as a Computer teacher. Please be patient with this process as we are trying to find highly qualified candidates.

With these changes as well as evaluation of the curriculum we have decided on a rotation model for the junior high program. The students will have a homeroom teacher as well as learn core subjects from teachers in their passion areas. Teachers will teach religion to their homeroom class. The students will begin and end each day in their homeroom. We believe this will help the students with their organization skills as well as provide a time for strengthening class unity.

Mrs. Zuniga will be the Sixth Grade homeroom teacher. She will instruct Math to students in grades 5-8.
Mrs. Amigable will be the Seventh Grade homeroom teacher. She will instruct English Language Arts (which includes writing) and Literature to students in grades 6-8.
Mrs. Coons will be the homeroom teacher for Eighth Grade. She will instruct students in grades 6-8 Social Studies and students in 7 and 8 Science.

Mrs. Zuniga, Mrs. Amigable and Mrs. Coons are so excited to be able to teach in their passion areas. Their dedication to creating engaging, rigorous lessons will ensure that our graduates are ready to make the transition to High School.

We look forward to seeing you here Saturday morning. Enjoy the last few days of vacation.

Pax (Kiss of Peace),
Miss Klant
