Happy Pentecost! This Sunday, Pentecost, marked the end of the Easter season and the beginning of Ordinary Time. Pentecost is the birthday of the church. Pentecost is when the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles and they were able to speak and everyone could understand. This gift made it possible for the Apostles to travel and teach others about Jesus. We too are called to share the message of Jesus. What can you do this week to share the message of Jesus?

On Thursday Night the Diocese held the Diocesan Awards.
Father Devdas won the Good Shepherd Award! This award is given to a member of the clergy or religious who is a model of Discipleship, Truth, & Courage.

Santa Sophia Academy won the Re-Imagine Catholic Schools Award! This award was given to a community that recognizes the needs and interests of the 21stcentury student. The Diocese recognized us for the creativity, commitment, and endless care that we put into re-imagining SSA during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Santa Sophia Parish is beginning a soft reopening. This summer many of the groups are starting to meet again. Was there a group you used to attend or one you want to join? Now is the time to get involved. One of those groups is Date Night. Please see the flyer attached for more information.

We are officially in the new office!

Virtual Auction Event
Our Auction was a huge success! Thank you to Rosa Carney and the PTG. Thank you to everyone who contributed by creating baskets, selling or purchasing tickets, and tuning in to Facebook Live for the event. Congratulations to our lucky winners!

Parent Survey
Parents we want to hear from you! We are evaluating our programs and deciding what to adjust as we come back from crazy COVID times and are able to get back to normal. Please take a moment to complete the survey by May 28th.

Yearbooks can be purchased in the Academy office.

Registration is complete for families already enrolled at SSA. We will have a rolling enrollment for new families. Please encourage others to join our amazing community. Remember if you bring in a family your registration fee is waived!

Santa Sophia’s Cub Scout Pack 355 and Scout Troop 355 are having in-person meetings and outings again! Both the Pack and the Troop will be having their first in-person events on Tuesday, May 25, as part of the Parish’s re-opening plan. The Pack will hold its Pinewood Derby on June 1, with a limited schedule of events during the summer. The Troop will meet all summer and will hold its first campout in over one year on the weekend of June 18-20 at Palomar Mountain. If you have been waiting for Scouting to reopen, now is the time to join! Boys and girls, ages 5-10, can join our Pack, and young men, ages 11-17, can join our Troop. Because attendance is limited to 50 between May 24 and September 1, and advanced reservations are needed to participate. For more information, contact Jim Brown, or TEXT a message to 619-248-4905.
