June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This is one of the most popular Catholic devotions. Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1673, showing her a vision of the now-famous image of His sacred heart, surrounded by flames. He said to her: “My heart is so full of love for men that it can no longer contain the flames of its burning love. I must discover to men the treasures of My Heart and save them from perdition.” We celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart on June 11th.
Principal for the Day
This week there is a new Principal… Kayla Shaba in 3rdgrade will be helping me lead the school. Today she co-led Assembly. She did an amazing job! She decided that there should be:
No homework this week!
Students can wear any athletic shoes this week with their Spirit Week attire.
Kayla will be shadowing me tomorrow. Let’s see what other decisions she makes. So far she is a fun Principal!
This Friday we will be celebrating the 8th Graders Graduation. Please keep them in your prayers as they make their transition to High School.
This year has been very challenging for everyone, especially our teachers. I am so very proud of them for embracing the new challenges that came with teaching during a pandemic. They worked tirelessly to provide the same rigorous education whether the student was in-person or distance learning. I am so grateful!
Unfortunately, there are some teachers who have decided to continue their path elsewhere next year. We will be saying goodbye to Ms. Fleury, Ms. Donnelly, Mrs. Amigable, and Mrs. Hickman. I am excited to share that Mrs. Amigable and Mrs. Hickman are continuing their education and pursuing advanced degrees. We will miss them and we wish them well on their journey.
Thank you to Ms. Knorr, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Genna, Ms. Krisman, Mrs. Payne, and Mrs. Zuniga who will continue with us next year. We are grateful for their continued commitment to SSA.
We will be adding to our staff next year as well. We are excited to provide these new programs to our students:
We are bringing back TK!
Spanish The students in TK to 8 will take Spanish 2 times a week.
Learning SupportLearning Support will benefit all students at SSA. The program will follow the push-in/pull-out model. The LS teacher will pull out students that need additional support or extension. They will also go into classrooms to support/extend students during the teacher’s lesson, or groups.
We are looking forward to an amazing year next year!
Yearbooks can be purchased in the Academy office. They will be distributed this week.
Registration is complete for families already enrolled at SSA. We will have a rolling enrollment for new families. Please encourage others to join our amazing community. Remember if you bring in a family your registration fee is waived!
SCOUTING IS OPEN AGAIN! COME JOIN US!
Santa Sophia’s Cub Scout Pack 355 and Scout Troop 355 are having in-person meetings and outings again! Both the Pack and the Troop will be having their first in-person events on Tuesday, May 25, as part of the Parish’s re-opening plan. The Pack will hold its Pinewood Derby on June 1, with a limited schedule of events during the summer. The Troop will meet all summer and will hold its first campout in over one year on the weekend of June 18-20 at Palomar Mountain. If you have been waiting for Scouting to reopen, now is the time to join! Boys and girls, ages 5-10, can join our Pack, and young men, ages 11-17, can join our Troop. Because attendance is limited to 50 between May 24 and September 1, and advanced reservations are needed to participate. For more information, contact Jim Brown email@example.com, or TEXT a message to 619-248-4905.
Students are starting to come down with sniffles and coughs. Please keep them home! I know that you want to send them for the last days of school but these are symptoms that initiate either testing or quarantine. Thank you for helping to keep our school safe for the last 7 days.
Please continue to follow these protocols:
If you believe your child has been in close contact with someone who has COVID please notify the office and self-quarantine for 14 days. Your child will be able to Zoom during their absence.
If your child has a fever (defined as 100°F or >) or has a symptom of COVID please notify the office and self-quarantine for 14 days. Your child will be able to Zoom during their absence.
