Happy Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed your 4 day weekend. The teachers learned a lot during their professional development day on Friday. This Sunday was the Second Sunday of Lent. In the Gospel we read, From the cloud a voice that says “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” How are we listening to Jesus this Lenten season? Are we making time to slow down and pray? Remember that prayer is both talking and listening to God. One opportunity for you to answer this call is to join the Parish for Confession and Adoration Wednesday evenings from 5-7pm. A Note from the Pastor Dear Santa Sophia Academy Students, Staff, and Families, Last week, I received a call from Bishop McElroy to move from Santa Sophia Parish to Saint Therese Parish, Del Cerro. Although it will be difficult as change can be, I have accepted this assignment, as I must go where I am called to go. The transfer will be in effect on July 1st, where Fr. Corey Tufford, from Saint Marks in San Marcos, will be taking over as the Pastor of Santa Sophia Parish and Academy. The last seven years have been a great blessing and I request you keep me in your prayers as I make this transition. I have thoroughly enjoyed my ministry here working with the Academy and you wonderful children. Santa Sophia Parish and Academy will always be in my heart and prayers. I will share with you more about the transition plans in the upcoming months in my weekly announcements. Please pray for me as I prepare to move to Saint Therese Parish and join me in praying for your new pastor. I know you will welcome Fr. Corey with open hearts as we always do at Santa Sophia. With blessings and prayers Father Devdas We wish Fr. Devdas the best in his new assignment and are grateful for his leadership and Pastoral care during his time at Santa Sophia. We are blessed that he will be with us until the end of June. We will use this time to share our appreciation for all he has done. We welcome Fr. Tufford to our wonderful SSA community. Vision Screening Students in grades K, 3, 5 and 8 will have their vision screened on March 28th or 29th. If you do not want your child to participate in the vision screening please contact the Academy Office. COVID Updates We have many new changes this week. Masking: Students who are authorized to return from isolation or quarantine before Day 11 should (it’s no longer a “must”) mask indoors and outdoors when around others. However, per Cal/OSHA’s emergency temporary standards, employees who are authorized to return from isolation or quarantine before Day 11 must mask indoors and outdoors when around others. Group Tracing: All students who shared a common airspace for 15 minutes or more with a person who was contagious with COVID-19, including those who are fully vaccinated, must be notified that they should test on days 3, 4, or 5 following their last exposure. However, CDPH now says that students who are within 90 days of a prior verified COVID-19 infection should not test. Confirmation Testing: When a person receives a negative antigen test result within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms, they can now use a second antigen test (or a PCR or other NAAT) taken the following day to confirm the initial finding. If both tests are negative, the person can then return to school or work when they have been free of fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications and their symptoms are improving. Verified Non-COVID-19 Diagnosis: When a person has symptoms, the school can now accept evidence of a verified diagnosis from a physician of another illness that accounts for the symptoms to allow return to school or work when the person has been free of fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications and their symptoms are improving. As always, please contact the office for help in determining which option is right for your situation. We have at home COVID testing kits available at school if needed. |
