Santa Sophia Academy was founded in 1959 by Msgr. Verhoeven with the enthusiastic support of Bishop Buddy and the Religious Order of Jesus and Mary. SSA is part of Santa Sophia Parish, within the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego, CA. We provide a Catholic education for students in Preschool through Eighth Grade.

From our humble beginnings with classes being conducted in the church and rectory, SSA has grown to several dedicated buildings on the Santa Sophia Parish campus. In addition to academic excellence, we offer music, sports, drama and many other after-school programs. The Academy is currently staffed by dedicated lay educators under the leadership of Principal, Kristin Klant. The Academy has served the Parish and surrounding Community for over 60 years providing a well-rounded education steeped in the Catholic Faith.
