Welcome to Santa Sophia Academy! My name is Kathleen Zuniga and I am the Eighth Grade homeroom teacher. Currently, I teach Religion to 8th grade and Math to grades 6, 7, and 8.

My journey as a teacher began in 1994 teaching Kindergarten at OLPH in Lakeside, CA. I then joined Santa Sophia Academy in 1999 in Kindergarten as well. After a few years off raising my children I decided to go back into teaching but this time in the field of Math. I earned my Math credential and have taught middle school and high school math. Middle school is my favorite because of the close relationships that develop with the school families. It was missing at the high school level. 

All three of my children have graduated from SSA and I love being part of the community. Teaching in a Catholic school is my ministry. It is too difficult to separate who I am as a teacher from my faith and a Catholic school is the best place to put that faith into action. All of the families and students are welcoming and support one another in many ways. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in San Diego!
